Wondering what all those flowers are doing on NYC's cabs? No, its not the revival of the "Flower Power" generation, it's Garden In Transit. A division of Portraits of Hope, Garden In Transit is a city-wide public arts project created by thousands of kids in hospitals, schools, and community institutions, to paint flowers as an arts education and creative arts therapy initiative. To promote the flowers as symbols of "joy, life, beauty, and inspiration," the panels are being applied to taxis on adhesive, weather-proof panels, with the goal of covering the entire NYC taxi fleet! So far, over 23,000 people have participated in Garden in Transit.
Garden In Transit is looking for volunteers to help spread public awareness and apply the flower panels to taxis TODAY IN UNION SQUARE FROM 7am-5pm. Stop by to car-accessorize for as long or little as you like!
